Zack Snyder unveiled his dystopian space opera earlier this year rebel moon will be released in two parts on Netflix. That number now appears to have doubled as the filmmaker wants to avoid two separate cuts for each film—four films in all. Speaking to Vanity Fair, Snyder discussed a version that will be more family-friendly – “that everyone can enjoy and see,” while an explicit adult-only version will be released at a later date. The first Rebel Moon film appears December 22 on Netflix, with no release details for the unadulterated version.
“I think for fans of mine and people who are willing to dig deeper and harder, this is going to be fun,” Snyder told IM interview, who has published several cuts for his films in the past. During 2016 Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice The depiction of gory elements might have been a bit somber for the child audience Batman’s (Ben Affleck) In the R-rated version, which was released in the domestic media, the brute force was increased. At present, Rebel Moons The second part doesn’t have a specific release window, although Snyder hopes it ties right in with the first part. Snyder’s last collaboration with Netflix led to Army of the Deada zombie heist movie that was criticized for its one-note characters, a long running time of 148 minutes, and some stagnant dead pixels in the final cut.
Snyder’s penchant for long running times appears to have been a problem for “Rebel Moon” as well, ultimately leading to its dichotomy. According to his wife and longtime production partner Deborah SnyderAs it turned out, the script was 172 pages long, with each page representing one minute of screen time, resulting in an epic that would run for nearly three hours. Netflix’s Film Chairman Scott Stuber denied this, claiming that two-hour films generally do well on the platform “for some reason,” although people are more than willing to binge-watch an entire eight-episode series. “If you ask me to do this for less than two hours, I’ll lose the whole character,” Deborah describes Zack’s response. “You won’t care about these people. It’s a character story about how people can change, about redemption and what you’re willing to fight for…” And so both parties agreed that “Rebel Moon” will be a two-part affair.
Rebel Moon is a grand space adventure centered around the enigmatic young woman Kora (Sofia Boutella), who lives in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy. As the oppressive regent Balisarius slowly tightens his oppressive rule and sends invading armies, she embarks on a mission to track down warriors from nearby planets to help take a stand and liberate the colony. If the premise resembles a Star Wars film, that’s because Snyder originally conceived it that way, although it was never produced, resulting in a remake into an original IP. It also stars Charlie Hunnam (The gentlemen), Djimon Hounsou (Shazam!), Ray Fisher (Zack Snyder’s Justice League), And Jena Malone (Nocturnal animals).
The first Rebel Moon movie hits Netflix on December 22nd. As previously mentioned, this would be the cleaner, more family-friendly option.
