Exclusive: According to sources, Russia's Gazprom will resume Nord Stream 1 gas flows as planned

Two sources familiar with Gazprom’s plans said on Friday that the Russian energy giant Gazprom (GAZP.MM) plans to restart gas supplies via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany on Saturday, following a three-day maintenance pause.

Even before flows were halted for three days this week for maintenance on Nord Stream 1, which runs beneath the Baltic Sea to supply Germany and others, it was operating at 20% capacity. Deliveries are set to resume at 0100 GMT on Saturday.

According to one of the sources, “supplies should proceed” as planned.

Moscow blames sanctions imposed by the West after Russia sent troops to Ukraine in February for impeding Nord Stream 1 operations and maintenance. According to Brussels, this is a ruse, and Russia is using gas as an economic weapon.

On Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added to the worries, saying there could be more disruptions to Nord Stream 1 deliveries. Read More
