Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has settled a lawsuit alleging that the social media platform illegally shared user data with the research firm Cambridge Analytica. The settlement comes after it was revealed a month ago that Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, would have to sit for a six-hour deposition by the plaintiff’s lawyers. The agreement’s terms have not yet been disclosed. In 2018, Facebook users sued the social media company.
According to a recent Bloomberg report, the American tech giant Meta has settled a lawsuit alleging that Facebook illegally shared user data with the UK research firm Cambridge Analytica. However, the terms and conditions of the aforementioned agreement have yet to be disclosed. Last month, it was reported that Zuckerberg would be subjected to six hours of questioning by the plaintiff’s lawyers.
In 2018, Facebook users sued the platform following revelations that Cambridge Analytica, which was linked to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, gained access to approximately 87 million users.
The court filing from a month ago also stated that Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg will be called to testify.
In the most recent filing, lawyers for both parties asked the judge presiding over the case to halt it in order to “facilitate the process of finalising a written settlement agreement.”
