The economist is looking for an international business correspondent, ideally initially in London. Journalistic experience is not required. The ability to write clearly and entertainingly is crucial. As well as a thorough understanding of economics – including current account and sovereign debt crises – and the ability to work with data.

The author will be responsible for reporting on global trade; burdens in low- and middle-income countries; and the intersection of economics and geopolitics. All beats at The economist are somewhat malleable depending on the skills and interests of the author. The correspondent will often work alongside country correspondents and the rest of the business team when responsibilities overlap. They are expected to appear in podcasts and films and on economist events.
