Google just purchased Alter, a business that creates AI avatars. According to TechCrunch, the internet behemoth paid roughly $100 million to acquire the business (approximately Rs 8,22,87,70,000). For those who are unfamiliar, Alter assists businesses and creators in building AI-based virtual avatars to represent their virtual selves.

The acquisition, according to the report, is intended to increase the content game and to compete with TikTok, a platform for short videos.

Even though the deal was finished about two months ago. However, none of the businesses released a formal statement to the public. The report also notes that, without making an official announcement, some Alter employees modified their Linkedin profiles to reflect their new employment with Google.

A Google spokesman also verified the same. He flatly refused to disclose the agreement’s financial details, though.

Regarding Alter as a business, it is a US- and Czech-based organization that began as Facemoji and then changed its name to Alter. Facemoji allowed developers to include avatar systems in their apps and games.

In the meantime, Google recently introduced new personalized emoticons for its Chat service to provide users with a more individualized experience. Customers of Google Workspace, G Suit Basic, and Business presently have access to the capability. If the organization authorizes it, they can generate unique emoticons for use in Gmail and Chat on the web.
