TAIPEI — Three years after the start of the global pandemic, Taiwan said people are no longer required to wear masks indoors at all times, although some restrictions are still in place.
People must continue to wear masks in places like hospitals and medical facilities and on public transport, according to Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center on Monday. Restaurants and offices will no longer require masks.
The mask rule will be relaxed in schools in March, as the requirement will be relaxed in two parts.
Still, many people continued to wear masks on the streets of Taipei, the island’s capital, and in office buildings. Shoppers still wore face coverings in grocery stores.
In December, Taiwan dropped its outdoor mask mandate, which had required people to wear a mask even when walking on the street.
