Henry Cavill exits The Witcher: Season 4, and Netflix replaces him with Liam Hemsworth as Geralt

Netflix has picked up The Witcher for a fourth season, albeit without Henry Cavill. Cavill is leaving the character of Geralt of Rivia after three seasons, according to a Tudum post from Netflix. Liam Hemsworth, who gained notoriety with The Hunger Games films, will now play the monster hunter. The news follows Cavill’s announcement that he would play Clark Kent/Superman once more for DC Studios, with Warner Bros. Discovery, the film’s parent company, preparing a Man of Steel sequel.

Cavill posted on his Instagram account, “My trip as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and regrettably, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season 4.” “The wonderful Mr. Liam Hemsworth will assume the role of the White Wolf in my place. I hand the mantle to Liam with admiration for the time spent inhabiting Geralt and excitement to see how he portrays this most intriguing and nuanced of individuals, as with the best literary characters.

There will be spoilers for the DC film Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson.
Following his appearance in the Black Adam post-credits scene, Cavill announced on Instagram that he would be returning to don the red cape for DC Comics. The 39-year-old actor made no further mention of this, but rumors claim that Warner is now looking for writers for their upcoming Superman film, which Charles Roven (The Dark Knight) will produce.

Although it’s not obvious whether Cavill’s return to Superman is directly to blame for his departure from The Witcher, it does appear that the two events are connected. For what it’s worth, Hemsworth is thrilled to be a part of the fourth season of The Witcher. “I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s swords for the next part of his adventure,” Hemsworth said of Henry Cavill, who played the role of Geralt so brilliantly. I may have some large shoes to fill, but I’m really looking forward to entering The Witcher universe.

Netflix released a teaser poster for The Witcher season 3 during its online-only event Tudum 2022, which took place late last month. The Witcher will return for season 3 in the summer of 2023.

There are few story specifics for season 3, however in season 2 Geralt learned about Ciri’s (Freya Allan) supernatural abilities, which were well beyond those of a monster hunter. In order to comprehend its complexities, he turns to his former girlfriend Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), traveling into the war grounds of Aretuza, which are rife with political corruption and dark sorcery.

In April of this year, Netflix unveiled the four directors that would be helming The Witcher season 3: Bola Ogun (American Horror Story), Loni Peristere (American Horror Story), and Stephen Surjik (The Umbrella Academy) (Lucifer).
