Manchester United Transfers: Manchester United agree deal to sign winger Antony from Ajax

Manchester United has agreed to sign Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax Amsterdam, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday.

Antony, who played for United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, had 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 games in all competitions last season as the Dutch club won its third straight Eredivisie title and advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League.

The deal’s financial terms were not disclosed, but British media reported that it would be worth an initial 80.75 million pounds ($94.63 million), with an additional 4.25 million pounds in add-ons for the 22-year-old.

Antony joined Ajax from Sao Paulo in February 2020 and has played more than 80 times for the club, scoring 25 goals. He has also represented Brazil nine times since his debut in 2021, scoring twice.

After Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Casemiro, he will be United’s fifth close-season signing.

The announcement comes as media speculation about forwarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future intensifies, with the Portugal player reportedly looking to leave Old Trafford following the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

United is currently eighth in the Premier League table, with six points from four games. On Thursday, they face bottom club Leicester City.
