The teaser trailer for Monica, O My Darling is now available. Netflix has released a one-minute preview of its upcoming Indian whodunit comedy starring Rajkummar Rao, Radhika Apte, and Huma Qureshi. Vasan Bala, known for Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota and Bombay Velvet, directs the film, which he describes as a neo-noir that is “an ode to movies” involving a perfect plan that leads to mayhem in the lives of involved parties. Monica, O My Darling’s script was written by Yogesh Chandekar (Andhadhun), and the teaser was first shown on Monday at an event in Mumbai before being released on YouTube on Tuesday.
The plot of Monica, O My Darling is not revealed in the teaser trailer. Rao’s (Newton) character, who is from the small, “exotic” town of Angola, appears to be plotting the perfect murder. To achieve his goal, he meets up with Qureshi (Army of the Dead), who appears to be running a crime business and should never be trusted. Apte (Sacred Games) joins them on the crusade, telling Rao that one should never narrate a backstory “so perfectly.” The Monica, O My Darling teaser trailer focuses heavily on the story of the “Prince of Angola,” which most likely corresponds with Rao’s motivation for murder.
Rao can also be seen playing with robot arms for a brief moment. Is evidenced by the synopsis for Monica, O My Darling, which mentions “robots crushing human skulls” in addition to other thematic elements such as lust, blackmail, and betrayal. Sikandar Kher (The Zoya Factor) joins the trio on the mission as a henchman, constantly mocking Rao’s naiveté. Bagavathi Perumal, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, Sukant Goel (Dobaraa), and Zayn Marie Khan are among the newcomers.
