Disney’s Pinocchio has received a new trailer ahead of its September 8 release. Walt Disney Studios has released the final trailer for the live-action adaptation directed by Robert Zemeckis, which will be available exclusively on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar. The film continues the studio’s newfound trend of transforming 2D animated properties into life-like CGI to appeal to a younger audience. Pinocchio first appeared in theatres in 1940, winning two Academy Awards. Fans will see the wooden puppet boy in action for the first time in this new Pinocchio trailer.

The first Pinocchio teaser was cut off just before the long-nosed puppet was brought to life, and it focused on some tone-building aspects. This new Pinocchio trailer shows our hero being created and raised by his creator/father Gepetto (Tom Hanks). Disney appears to be recreating the story from the original 2D animated film, making the toymaker wish for Pinocchio to come to life. As seen in the Pinocchio trailer, the wish is granted when Cynthia Erivo’s (Chaos Walking) Blue Fairy appears late at night and waves her wand around.

“Hello, pops!” yells Pinocchio, who is voiced by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, the moment he comes to life. Similar to The Jungle Book, the Disney film will combine real-life actors and CGI (2016). The living puppet then embarks on an adventure, encountering a slew of familiar characters, including Jiminy Cricket (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Sofia the Seagull (Lorraine Bracco), and the villainous Coachman (Luke Evans), who plans to transport Pinocchio to Pleasure Island.

The Pinocchio trailer also shows Honest John (Keegan-Michael Key) and Gideon the Cat, who persuade Pinocchio to join Stromboli’s (Giuseppe Battiston) puppet show and become a star attraction. “Why on earth would you want to be real when you can be famous?” he slyly asks. According to the story, our hero is imprisoned in a cage, which causes Geppetto to become concerned about his whereabouts. From here, the Pinocchio trailer cuts to quick shots of Pinocchio’s beautiful vistas and adventures. Finally, there’s a small tease of his nose growing longer, presumably as a result of lying.

The collaboration between Zemeckis and Hanks dates back to the Oscar-winning Forrest Gump. The pair then worked together on Cast Away and the Christmas cult classic The Polar Express, both of which were shot using motion capture. Pinocchio’s script was co-written by Zemeckis and Chris Weitz (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).
