Rajasthan Introduces New EV Policy, Appoints Rs. 40 Crore in EV Purchase Grant

On Thursday, the Rajasthan government implemented a new electric vehicle policy that provides financial incentives to EV buyers in the state. The government has approved a total contribution of Rs. 40 crores for the purchase of electric vehicles under the new Rajasthan Electric Vehicle Policy (REVP). Starting today, the policy aimed at encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles in the state will be in effect for five years (September 1). Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced the EV policy in the 2019-20 budget.

According to a report by PTI citing a transport department official, the state government issued a notification for the implementation of the Rajasthan Electric Vehicle Policy (REVP). Starting today, the EV policy will be in effect for five years. According to reports, the state government has set aside Rs. 40 crores for contributions toward the purchase of EVs.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced the policy in the 2019-20 budget. On May 24, this year, the draught policy was approved. The government has approved a one-time contribution for the purchase of electric vehicles, as well as an additional Rs. 40 crore budget provision for the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST).

To encourage the purchase of electric vehicles, the state government will reimburse SGST amounts ranging from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 for two-wheelers. The purchase of three-wheelers will be reimbursed between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 20,000, depending on the vehicle’s battery capacity.

Meanwhile, the transport department has reportedly received Rs. 40 crores to settle all outstanding debts related to the purchase of electric vehicles.
