Rakuten Mobile Inc of Japan announced on Sunday that its service for Rakuten UN-LIMIT VII plan users had been restored, following a system failure that caused difficulties making calls and sending data for more than two hours.

The mobile carrier, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rakuten Group Inc, did not specify how many users were affected by the outage, which lasted approximately 2-1/2 hours after it began shortly before 11:00 a.m. local time.

According to a statement, service was restored around 1:26 p.m. on Sunday (0426 GMT Sunday).

After tens of millions of users were affected by network problems in early July, Japan’s internal affairs ministry issued rare administrative guidance to rival wireless carrier KDDI Corp in August.
