Report: WhatsApp is Working on Displaying Profile Photos in Group Chats for iOS

According to reports, WhatsApp is developing a feature that will display the members’ profile pictures in group chats and make changes to the app’s user interface on iOS. The feature is rumored to be in development, and a release date has not yet been determined. The information was released a few days after it was mentioned that WhatsApp for iOS might add a feature that would let users view status updates within the chat list. Beta testers of WhatsApp for Android have already received this feature.

Apparently, WhatsApp for iOS will soon get a feature for testing that will show the profile pictures of participants within group chats, according to a post by WABetainfo, a platform that tests WhatsApp features before they are rolled out for the general public. In that group, your profile photo will appear next to any messages you have sent. At the moment, WhatsApp only displays the names of group members next to their messages.

The platform stated that WhatsApp recently submitted a new update via the TestFlight beta Program, bringing the WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.18.0.72 version. The statement continued, “since there is no switch for it, it will always be enabled by default for all group participants, there is no way to disable this feature.” There is no information on when this feature will be accessible to regular users because, as previously mentioned, it is still in development.

A few days prior to the development, a report claimed that WhatsApp would give its iOS beta testers access to a feature that would let them view status updates within the chat list. Users can view a status update by clicking on a contact’s display image in the chat list, and they can mute all status updates to make them disappear.

Additionally, it has been suggested that WhatsApp may introduce a feature that would allow users to recover unintentionally deleted chat messages. After a message is deleted, users will reportedly receive a snackbar at the bottom of the screen with the Delete for Me option, which can be used to give users the option to recover the deleted message within a certain amount of time.
