The government of Karnataka extended an invitation to the business tycoon Elon Musk starting a business in the southern state.
Karnataka’s Minister of Trade and Industry and Infrastructure, MB Patil, wrote in a Twitter post that his state of Karnataka was the “ideal travel destination” for Tesla‘s expansion to India.
“If Tesla is considering establishing a plant in India, Karnataka, with its great potential and capabilities, I have to say that it is the goal,” he added.
“As a progressive state and a thriving hub of innovation and technology, Karnataka stands ready to support Tesla and other Elon Musk ventures and provide the necessary facilities Starlink‘ Patil wrote, tagging Musks Twitter handle.
Karnataka, Patil said, is focused on being the technology and manufacturing 5.0 hub to propel the state forward for the next few decades.
Meanwhile, during the ongoing state visit to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk and invited him to explore investment opportunities in electric mobility and the fast-growing commercial space in India Space Sector.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Prime Minister Modi, Musk, who is also CEO of , said SpaceXsaid he was incredibly excited about India’s future, adding that India held more promise than any other major country in the world.
“I am tentatively planning to visit India again next year. I’m looking forward to it,” Musk added.
Responding to questions from reporters, Musk said he was confident his automaker Tesla would be in India “as soon as humanly possible.” “I would like to thank Prime Minister Modi for his support and I hope that we can announce something in the not too distant future.”
When asked when Tesla will be in India, Musk said, “We don’t want to rush into an announcement, but it’s very likely that there will be significant investments for India in the future.”
In a brief counter-question from reporters asking what changed his mind about Tesla’s investment in India, he said, smiling, “I never changed my mind.”
Tesla is reportedly expected to announce the location of its new factory by the end of 2023.
Additionally, Musk expressed interest in bringing his Starlink services to India. Starlink is a satellite-based Internet service provider operated by Musk’s company, SpaceX.
India intends to capitalize on the potential of the space sector by inviting private actors into the field.
