Elon Musk could step down as Twitter CEO today and is asking Twitter users to vote

Elon Musk tweeted a poll asking Twitter users to decide whether or not to step down as CEO and promising he will stick to the outcome. The poll is open until around 4:30pm Indian time or 3am PST and hence the result will be known soon. Musk had a turbulent few months as CEO, laying off thousands of Twitter employees and enacting massive policy changes like the botched launch of a repurposed Twitter Blue Premium subscription plan and lifting bans on several controversial figures and organizations, including the former US President President Donald Trump.

musk has previously stated that he does not want to serve as CEO of Twitter for long, suggesting he would find someone else for the job. He is currently CEO of Tesla Inc, SpaceX, The Boring Company, Neuralink and the Musk Foundation. He recently exposed to criticism for neglecting his other jobs, particularly from prominent Tesla shareholders. However, Musk later told company employees that the proposed council would be “advisory” only and he would be the final arbiter of all such decisions anyway. It is unclear whether such a council was ever established, and meanwhile, Twitter’s existing Trust and Safety Council has also now dissolved.

Most recently, Musk was suddenly in the news to forbid the accounts of several journalists covering Twitter, as well as an account that has publicly available information about the Movements of his private jet after expressly promising not to do so. Musk has previously described himself as a “free speech absolutist.”
