Twitter and Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Sunday that the past three months have been “extremely tough” as he has had to “save Twitter from bankruptcy” while still fulfilling his duties at Tesla and SpaceX. As for his official Twitter name, Musk said the microblogging site continues to face challenges.
Elon Musk tweeted: “The last 3 months have been extremely tough, I had to save Twitter before bankruptcy, while fulfilling essential Tesla & SpaceX Tasks. I don’t wish this pain on anyone. Twitter still has challenges but is now trending towards breakeven if we keep at it. Public support is greatly appreciated!” He tweeted in response to the Wall Street Journal news article.
Musk bemoaned the company’s “massive drop in revenue” just a week after completing the $44 billion (about Rs.3.6 billion) deal to buy Twitter in October, which he attributes to “activist groups pressuring advertisers” reported Fox Business. He’s made a number of changes on Twitter since then, according to the news report.

Elon Musk has cut about half of Twitter’s workforce, rolled out a revamped Blue subscription service for the microblogging site, and even auctioned off memorabilia from the company’s San Francisco headquarters, Fox Business reported. He defended Twitter’s firings in November, stressing that the company is losing $4 million (about Rs 3.3 billion) every day.
Recently, Twitter announced that it will charge a fee to access its API, which developers use to build third-party services, according to the news report. On Jan. 13, Musk revealed some of the changes set to roll out to the microblogging platform starting next week. He wrote: “Bookmark button will be moved to tweet detail page, image length cropping and other minor bug fixes will be fixed next week.”
