Instagram has announced a new feature called Quiet Mode “to help people focus and to encourage people to set boundaries with their friends and followers.” According to the company, the feature aims to alleviate users’ anxiety about spending time outside of the app by silencing incoming alerts, automatically replying to direct messages (DMs), and setting an account’s status to “Asleep.” to let the followers know that the user is not currently active on the app. Although the feature is available to everyone, the feature is specifically aimed at teenage users.

in one blog entry explanation of the new functions, Instagram parent Meta, said that teenagers told the company that sometimes “they want to take time for themselves and maybe they’re looking for more ways to focus at night, while studying, and at school.” The new sleep mode is designed to encourage people to spend less time on the app, and the company says it will encourage teenage users to turn on sleep mode during the night through in-app prompts.

Meta says it developed this feature “to help people focus and to encourage people to set boundaries for their friends and followers.” Mode: According to the company, Instagram also sends an automatic reply when someone DMs you.

In the latest blog post, Instagram also unveiled newer ways to control referrals and updated its Parental Supervision Tools. Users can now hide multiple content at once in Explore. Users can also “add a word or list of words, emoji, or hashtags that you want to avoid.”

“We recently added the ability for parents to see their teen’s Instagram settings, including privacy and account settings. When their teen updates a setting, parents get a notification so they can talk to their teen about the change. Parents can now also see accounts blocked by their teen,” the post added.

Silent mode is available to all users in Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the US starting today and will be rolling out to other regions soon.

Nick Clegg, Meta President, Global Affairs tweeted“We will be encouraging teenage users to turn on ‘quiet mode’ – teenagers have told us they are looking for more ways to focus while studying, at school and at night. It’s available starting today for all users in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and more countries to come.”

Instagram has also tried to build features to help users manage their time beforehand. The app already includes a feature that allows users to know, track and control their daily time spent using the app by sending them notifications.

The app also offers a feature that lets you set up “take a break” prompts when certain app sessions go past a certain amount of time, as well as tools to pause, snooze, restrict, and unfollow pages, groups, and people who Reduce engagement with addictive or otherwise irrelevant posts.
