Twitter Inc will relaunch a revamped version of its Twitter Blue subscription service Monday at a higher price for Apple users, the company said in a tweet on Saturday.
The company said users could subscribe to the revamped service, which allows subscribers to edit tweets, upload 1080p videos and get a blue tick after account verification, for $8 (about Rs 660) per month over the web, but for $11 (about 900 rupees). per month via Apple iOS.
Twitter didn’t explain why Apple Users were billed more than others on the internet, but there were media reports that the company was looking for ways to offset the fees levied on the internet app store.
Twitter had started first Twitter Blue In early November before it was paused when fake accounts mushroomed. It was then scheduled to start again on November 29, but was postponed.
Elon Muskwhich privatized Twitter for $44 billion in November, had listed various grievances with Apple, including the 30 percent fee, in a series of tweets last month iPhone Manufacturer charges software developers fees for in-app purchases.
The fee has drawn criticism and lawsuits from companies such as Epic Gamesthe manufacturer of Fourteen dayswhile attracting the attention of regulators around the world.
The commission could weigh in on Musk’s attempts to boost Twitter subscription revenue, in part to offset the exodus of advertisers over content moderation concerns.
He then accused Apple of threatening to ban Twitter from its app store and said the iPhone maker had stopped advertising on the social media platform.
However, after a subsequent meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook, he tweeted that the misunderstanding about the removal of Twitter from Apple’s App Store has been resolved.
Both Twitter and Apple did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
