Twitter owner Elon Musk said the social media app should be back later in the day after some users were unable to tweet on Wednesday and prematurely encountered a message stating, “You’ve exceeded the daily limit for sending tweets.” .”

musk tweeted early Thursday that there were multiple “internal and external issues with the app simultaneously,” adding that the service should be back on track later tonight.

Twitter was down as of 5 p.m. Eastern Time for about 9,000 users in the United States, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com. The number of outages was down to 2,500 by 6 p.m. Eastern.

“Twitter may not work as expected for some of you. Sorry for the inconveniences. We are aware of this and are working to fix it,” Twitter’s support account tweeted on Wednesday.

The outage comes as billionaire Musk has cut Twitter’s workforce since acquiring the company in October, raising concerns about the viability of the service with fewer engineers.

The intel reported Musk told Twitter employees on Wednesday to pause development of new features “to maximize the stability and robustness of the system, especially with the Super Bowl approaching.”
