Meta announced that subjects App on July 6th. Developed by the team at Instagram, the app allows users to share text updates and join public conversations. Given the interface and features, it’s easy to deduce that the app aims to compete with others Twitter — Elon Musk’s microblogging page that’s been causing a stir in the social media community lately. Both the similarities and differences between Twitter and threads are widely discussed. The policies and terms of use of the apps, as well as their quantity restrictions It is also worth noting whether or not such an imposition is imposed on users.
What is Threads – the new app from Meta?
threads were introduced as a social media site for posting short text updates of up to 500 characters, which may include photos and links. Users can also upload a video of up to 5 minutes to accompany their entry. According to Meta, an existing Instagram account can be used to log into the app, and users can “easily share a Threads post on your Instagram story or share your post as a link on another platform of your choice.”
Posts from individuals and profiles that users follow on Instagram or threads are displayed in the home feed, as are the recommendations for new content, just like Instagram. Just like Twitter, Threads users have the ability to filter specific words from their feed and limit who can mention them in a post and/or comments.
The app is available for free download on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for iOS and Android users respectively. Within the first hours after launch, the app crossed 10 million registrations.
How do threads work?
As a requirement for a Threads account, the user must have an Instagram account as users will be asked to log in to the newly launched platform using their Instagram credentials. Your Instagram username will be taken over once the Threads account is set up, but users can personalize their profile.
Users can easily follow the same accounts they currently follow on Instagram instead of starting from scratch. When users update a post or “thread”, they have the option to choose who can see it, which varies between all threads users or just their followers.
As is common with most popular social media platforms, users have the option to unfollow, report, block, or restrict an account. Instagram and Threads are so closely related that all blocked Instagram accounts will be automatically blocked in Threads if used via the three dots dropdown options. The app also supports a screen reader and AI-generated visual descriptions.
Meta added that it tries to make threads compatible and integrate with other apps that accept the ActivityPub protocol, like WordPress and Mastodon. The company claimed that it is slowly working on allowing users to use the Threads app independently, whether they have an Instagram account or not.
Battle of the Execs – Who will win?
This is as good a time as any since Twitter launched the Threads app caught in a storm between advertisers, users and its owner. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg may not go head-to-head with Elon Musk in a cage fight, but their rivalry in the tech world continues. The integrated Instagram link in threads should make building a strong user base in limited time a lot easier. Although Musk elevated With Twitter capping the daily post cap at 10,000 for verified users, 1,000 for unverified users, and 500 for new unverified users, the move is likely to result in a loss of subscribers — and advertisers — that have changed since Musk’s acquisition in November 2022 retired from business.
