Koo, an India-based social media app that wants to compete with Twitter, has integrated OpenAI’s ChatGPT to make it easier for users to create posts, the company’s co-founder told Reuters.

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence bot that can create prose in response to prompts and has sparked tech industry hype around generatives AI.

koo Users can use ChatGPT right inside the app to post about current events, politics or pop culture, Koo co-founder Mayank Bidawatka said in an interview.

“This will help creators get some inspiration for what to create,” he said. “You could ask (ChatGPT) about the trending news in your area and then jot down your thoughts.”

Last month tech giants Microsoft and alphabets Google each announced their own generative AI chatbots capable of synthesizing information about the web in response to search queries. Snap Inc, owner of the photo messaging app Snapchat, also introduced a chatbot that was trained to have a fun and friendly tone.

Bidawatka said Koo will be the first platform to integrate the technology with the posting ability. Users can either type their prompts into the ChatGPT tool or use Koo’s voice command feature.

About 20 percent of Koo users are actively creating content on the app, and the ChatGPT integration could help increase that number, he added.

The feature will be rolled out first for verified accounts on Koo and will eventually be rolled out to all users.

In a demo for Reuters, the tool drafted a post quoting Albert Einstein and included three related hashtags.

Koo will also investigate adding labels to indicate if a post was created using ChatGPT.

“I think people should know if content is AI-generated,” Bidawatka said.
