Why Meta deleted 2.29 million posts on Facebook and Instagram in November

Social media giant Meta cracked down on more than 2.29 million pieces of content created by Indian users on Facebook and Instagram in November, according to the company’s India Monthly Report on Thursday.

The company has taken action on over 1.95 million pieces of content Facebook and 33.9 lakh content Instagramaccording to the data shared in the report.

The company removed over 1.49 million pieces of spam, followed by 18,000 pieces of content related to “adult nudity and sexual activity” and 12,000 pieces related to “violent and graphic content”, etc. on Facebook.

Meta received 2,368 complaints under the IT Rules 2021 from Instagram users, with most complaints about a hacked account (939), followed by fake profiles (891), bullying or harassment (136), and content that violates the user in it showing nudity or partial nudity or in a sexual act (94) etc.

“Of those incoming reports, in 1,124 cases we provided tools for users to solve their problems,” Meta said.

The company responded to 555 complaints of fake profiles, 253 cases of hacked accounts, 31 cases of bullying or harassment, and 30 cases of content showing the user nude or partially nude or engaged in a sexual act.

The social media giant received 889 complaints under the IT Rules 2021 on Facebook, for which in 511 cases it provided tools for users to solve their problems.

Facebook users’ main complaints, according to the report, were their accounts being hacked, followed by losing access to user-managed pages, bullying or harassment, and content showing users nudity or partial nudity, or engaging in a sexual act. The company resolved all complaints in cases when users lost access to pages.

However, only 73 complaints related to fake profiles, 40 complaints about hacked accounts, 29 cases of bullying or harassment, and only 17 complaints about content showing the user nude or partially nude or engaged in a sexual act, as per the report.
