YouTube announces revenue share for shorts starting February 1st

YouTube has announced that revenue sharing for YouTube Shorts will begin on February 1st. A new agreement for the YouTube Partners Program is rolling out this week, as announced in a video on the YouTube Creators channel. Adoption of a new agreement is a must for all creators monetizing the affiliate program, and it must be signed by July 10th to proceed with monetization. YouTube reconfigured the new agreement to include “modules,” which YouTube claims give creators more versatility in how they monetize YouTube.

All creators must sign the “Base Terms,” ​​which includes things like content guidelines and three other sections. The first is the “watchpage monetization module” which is applicable for long form or live stream content on all youtube Products. Subscribing to this module allows a creator to generate revenue from videos viewed on YouTube website (or apps) and content embedded on third-party websites.

The “YouTube short films The most significant innovation is the Monetization Module, which enables monetization of short content on YouTube. Earnings are generated here from ads or YouTube Premium and will be available from February 1, 2023 for “qualifying short films”. Following this date, the creators will start making money from shorts as soon as they sign the agreement.

Explained that non-original content is not eligible for revenue sharing. This includes unedited clips from movies or TV shows, content from other creators on YouTube or other platforms, and compilations with non-original content. The new affiliate program also includes a Commerce Product Addendum that enables fan-funded features like Super Chat.
