5G Services Now Available in 238 Cities in India: MoS Devusinh Chauhan

5G services will be available in 238 Indian cities by the end of January 2023, Union Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan told parliament on Wednesday.

Telecom providers started providing high-speed services 5G Services in the country from October 2022.

“The government has created a roadmap to make 5G services available in different parts of the country through rollout commitments. According to the Notice Inviting Application (NIA) of 06/15/2022 for the auction of frequencies and the license conditions, the rollout obligations must be gradually fulfilled over a period of five years from the moment of the frequency allocation,” said the minister.

The government issued spectrum allocation letters to telecom operators in August 2022, urging them to prepare for the rollout of 5G services in the country.

Department of Telecom had received total bids worth Rs. 1.50 lakh crore from 5G spectrum auction.

What is 5G and how is it different from current 3G and 4G services?

5G is the fifth generation mobile network that can transmit large amounts of data at very high speeds.

Compared to 3G and 4G, 5G has very low latency, which will improve user experience in various areas. Low latency describes the efficiency of processing a very high volume of data messages with minimal delay.

The rollout of 5G is also expected to lead to more development in remote data monitoring in industries such as mining, warehousing, telemedicine and manufacturing.

trust jio, Adani group, Bharti AirtelAnd Vodafone idea were the four main participants in the frequency auction.
