Fierce Network is thrilled to announce that our editorial team won four FOLIO: Eddie and Ozzie Awards, demonstrating excellence across a range of categories. We are proud to say that every editorial team member was included in the wins.

“Thank you to the Eddie and Ozzie Awards for recognizing the hard work by our editorial team. Over the last year, we have transformed our content to focus on news analysis and bring our own unique voices to the forefront and these four awards demonstrate the ROI on our efforts,” said Fierce Network Editor-in-Chief Elizabeth Coyne.

Fierce Network was selected as the winner in the following categories:

1) Planned or On-location coverage – for Fierce Network’s 2024 reporting from Mobile World Congress

As you might guess from the name, Mobile World Congress is THE wireless industry event of the year. We sent five team members to Barcelona to conduct on-site interviews both on camera and off for both editorial and sponsored content. A sixth team member in the U.S. was responsible for taking embargoed pre-briefings ahead of the show and made sure content the week of MWC was posted and promoted as planned.

Written coverage during the show included a mix of product releases, keynote takeaways and trend analysis, as well as insights gleaned from 1:1 interviews with a variety of telco executives. Video coverage included 1:1 interviews with key executives on hot topics and daily wrap videos which featured editorial team members sharing their highlights from each day.

Winning team members in this category included Elizabeth Coyne, Editor in Chief; Linda Hardesty, Executive Editor; Monica Alleven, Executive Editor; Dan Jones, Senior Reporter; Stephen Saunders, Silverlinings Founder; and Diana Goovaerts, Executive Editor.

2) News Coverage, digital, print or video – for Fierce Network’s coverage of Broadcom’s VMware acquisition

Fierce Network’s entry for this category spanned a series of articles that shed light on semiconductor company Broadcom and its plans to acquire the well-established networking software giant VMware.

Broadcom’s reputation for acquiring companies, slimming down key product lines and laying off staff is well known. As everyone waited to see whether regulators across the globe would approve the merger, VMware employees stressed about layoffs and customers spent the year fretting about what the deal would mean for them, their networking software and other systems and solutions.

Since the deal closed in late 2023, we’ve been closely covering Broadcom’s overhaul of VMware, including long-feared layoffs, product and pricing changes and asset sales.

Winning team members in this category included Dan Jones, Senior Reporter; Mitch Wagner, Executive Editor; and Diana Goovaerts, Executive Editor.

3) Series of articles, B2B, Technology – for Fierce Network’s coverage of broadband affordability issues

Our entry in this category incldued a series of articles focused on the shutdown of the Affordable Connectivity program and the impacts the loss of the subsidy had on consumers and the industry alike.

Fierce Network has been following this issue closely from all angles, looking at the impact on communications service providers large and small, who might lose subscribers who can only afford service thanks to the subsidy; political sparring over the value of the program; potential sources of last minute ACP funding; and what resources customers might have available to them after the program ends.

Winning team members in this category included Masha Abarinova, Staff Writer; Julia King, Staff Writer; Sue Marek, freelance writer; and Diana Goovaerts, Executive Editor.

4) Range of Work by a Single Author, B2B – Executive Editor Diana Goovaerts

Fierce’s entry in this category spotlighted the work of Executive Editor Diana Goovaerts.

While she is primarily tasked with covering Cloud news, Goovaerts’ background in Wireless and Broadband technology means she can pinch hit with coverage for Fierce Network’s other two major topic areas when the need arises.

Beyond just reporting the news and spotlighting the executives behind key technologies, Goovaerts uses her stories to explore current and emerging technologies to help Fierce Network’s audience of B2B professionals better understand not just what’s happening in the market today, but where it’s going next.

Spotlight pieces from the entry included “Exclusive: Google Cloud CTO talks tech, failures and what the future holds,” “Buckle up, cable – AT&T just gave FWA fresh legs,” and “Explore the floor: On the ground at Google Cloud Next.”
