Look, we hate making these lists simply because we know there are real people behind the numbers. But onward we trudge in hopes of helping some prepare, some to dodge a bullet and others know they’re not alone.
Here’s our rundown of telecom and tech layoffs in 2025, which will be update throughout the year.
And just as a side note, this list doesn’t include workers pushed out via return-to-office mandates (ahem, quiet firing). Rest assured we do know that’s happening and will have an eye on company headcounts as they are made public in earnings reports.

Layoffs in 2025
Alphabet/Google

A Google WARN notice filed in the state of California showed it cut 52 roles there so far in 2025.
Amazon
Amazon closed seven warehouses in Quebec in January 2025, a move that impacted 1,700 workers. Later the same month, it reportedly laid off dozens of corporate and communications staff as well. WARN notices filed by the company as of March 27 show it cut 432 jobs in Pennsylvania, 86 jobs in California and another 88 in Virginia.
Though rumors were swirling that the company could cut another 14,000 roles by the end of Q1, FastCompany reported those claims to be false.

IBM
The Register reported in March that IBM is planning to slash about 9,000 jobs, including a quarter of its Cloud Classic workforce, as part of a restructuring initiative that will shift more jobs to India.
Asked about the report, an IBM spokesperson told Fierce “IBM’s workforce strategy is driven by having the right people with the right skills to do the work our clients need. In 4Q earnings earlier this year, IBM disclosed a workforce rebalancing charge that would represent a low single digit percentage of IBM’s global workforce. This rebalancing is driven by increases in productivity and our continued push to align our workforce with the skills most in-demand among our clients, especially in areas such as AI and hybrid cloud.”
Intel
Rumors are swirling that Intel is considering large-scale layoffs in 2025, but thus far confirmation remains outstanding. The company slashed 1,300 jobs in Oregon in November 2024. So far in 2025, though it has only filed a WARN notice in California to eliminate 58 positions.
