5G services would be made operational in rural and urban areas of Himachal Pradesh by the end of 2024, a state official said Monday.
This will ensure better Internet facilities and reduce the digital divide between the masses, IT Secretary Abhishek Jain said.
Chaired the national level meeting on modalities for the use of government infrastructure/street furniture in building a telecommunications structure for manufacturing 5G Services operational by 2024, he said that in the current scenario, data is new oil to make all segments work with efficiency and dynamism, which cannot be done without the development of the telecom sector and 5G services.
Also in Himachal, the government is continuously working on the development of the telecom sector and making every possible effort to roll out the 5G service as soon as possible, he said, adding that both government officials and service providers need to coordinate and take a defined approach for this to happen within a specified period of time.
It has been experienced that all service workers keep digging land to install fibers and poles, causing inconvenience to people and also polluting the environment.
With this in mind, he emphasized finding out the mechanism that would cause the least harm to flora and fauna and the least inconvenience to the public in the launch of 5G service.
He suggested that all contractors should coordinate and complete the installation work in one go to avoid having to dig up land over and over again.
