Tom Marrapode:

I’m Tom Marrapode. I’m with Molex working in the optical connectivity segment. Today we’re showing our optical connectivity products. This is a new line of optical cable and connectivity. Molex is very strong in the telecom equipment sector, all of our electrical and optical interconnect are in carriers’ networks. They trust us with their most important interconnects, both optical and electrical. And now we’re extending our product range out into the access market.

And Molex is very strong on the electrical and optical technology side, so we’re always involved in our customers’ increasing bandwidth needs. We’re always generations ahead because we develop the equipment that transmits light at faster speeds. We also do the electrical equipment interfaces, so we’re very strong in the standards. We’re always helping the carriers, equipment providers increase the bandwidth density of their speeds.

At this show, what we’re showing is our optical cable, and as we start to push fiber more deeply into the access networks, we have a problem with the craftspeople. We need to have more craftspeople working. And this optical cable line is designed to make it easier for the craftsperson to open up the cable quicker so that we can ease the installation process and speed the whole deployment process of optical fiber in the networks.

We’re deeply involved in the AI on the equipment side, so these high-speed optical and electrical links are very challenged for AI. They need a lot of bandwidth, so we’re working with the OEMs who build those systems and the hyperscalers who deploy them with the interconnects that go inside the data centers or the equipment. We’re also working on ways of making these things easier to deploy into the network so that we can just speed up that whole development cycle and deployment cycle.
