Speed management provider E-SMART is rolling out its new backup speed limiter technology to help cut down at vehicle accidents at company facilities.

E-SMART Reverse makes it so companies can set maximum speeds on their commercial vehicles in geofenced locations. If any driver in a vehicle outfitted with the technology tries to go faster in reverse than a preset speed limit, the throttle gets limited and the vehicle can’t exceed that maximum.

“By some estimates, backing crashes represent about 30% of commercial vehicle accidents, and most of those are preventable,” E-SMART senior vice president Joe Thell said. “By enabling the ability to limit backing speeds in company specified speed zones, this latest feature of our Dynamic Speed Management technology reduces the all too frequent occurrence of backing accidents.”

E-SMART systems also allow companies to remotely remotely speed limits for any fleet vehicles on roads in North America.
