The Greek shipping organization Neptune Lines announced that it had ordered a pair of car-carrying ships designed for short sea trade from Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in China. The 4,200 car equivalent unit (CEU) dead freight pure car and truck carriers (PCTC) will be delivered by 2026, according to Marine Link.
Both ships will utilize hybrid energy systems and are dual-fueled to run on either liquid natural gas or very low Sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO), which will reduce the company’s greenhouse gas emissions.
The ship’s designs will be provided by Deltamarin, and the vessels will be classed by the Norwegian company DNV.
“Neptune Lines continues to improve its environmental performance by using the latest advanced technologies, fuels and scale improvements,” said Craig Jasienski, CEO of Neptune Lines. “We are determined to drive the energy transition of the shipping industry while remaining committed to providing adaptable and sophisticated solutions to our customers’ needs and reacting swiftly to their demands. We remain dedicated to our mantra of Wake Forward.”
The vessels are the first two in a new series of ships that reflect Neptune’s plans to supplement its fleet over the next decade, reduce its emissions outputs and increase its relevant cargo capacity by 36%.
