The University of Queensland (UQ) has launched a strategic partnership with the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Hub to fast-track the development and commercialization of industry-driven research in Australia. This collaboration, spanning four years, aims to significantly enhance the nation’s capabilities in robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) across key sectors such as energy, medical, and agriculture.
Professor Sue Harrison, Executive Dean of UQ’s Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT), emphasized the transformative potential of this partnership. “By aligning UQ’s research expertise with the practical needs of industry and government, we are positioned to drive innovation that delivers meaningful economic and social benefits,” Professor Harrison stated.
As part of this initiative, ARM Hub’s Chief Executive Officer, Professor Cori Stewart, and Head of Business and Research Partnerships, Samuel Jesuadian, have joined UQ in key roles to foster collaboration between academia and industry. This partnership is further bolstered by a $5 million investment from the Australian Government, aimed at empowering small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises to integrate AI into their operations.
Professor Stewart highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, noting that it offers Australian SMEs a unique opportunity to establish themselves as global leaders in innovation. This partnership is poised to accelerate the growth of existing and emerging industries, making significant contributions to Australia’s economic and technological landscape.
