Mr. Gonzalez is a distinguished writer, director and former professor with a career spanning several decades in the film industry. Mr. Gonzalez’s dedication to his craft is evident in his daily writing routine and commitment to exchanging scripts and feedback with peers. Prior to founding Beisbol Productions, Mr. Gonzalez was a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he taught in the School of Theater, Film and Television for over 20 years, from 1991 until 2014.

As a professor, Mr. Gonzalez’s primary focus was on instructing graduate programs in writing and directing while also contributing to undergraduate education by assisting students with their senior projects. Additionally, he served as head of production and vice chair of the Department of Film, Television and Digital Media before retiring from academia. All in all, Mr. Gonzalez’s tenure at UCLA was marked by his receipt of the Distinguished Teaching Award in 2003 and 2004, an honor that recognized his exceptional teaching skills and positive impact on students and the academic community.

Leading up to his career in academia and film, Mr. Gonzalez earned a Master of Arts in English and American literature from California State University, Los Angeles; completed coursework in film from San Francisco State University; and completed a Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of Southern California. His career began in 1984 after graduate school when he co-founded In-Camera Film and Video with classmates. Once his partners pursued other fields, he acquired full ownership and continued making and editing films through this enterprise until 1990. Such early experiences laid the foundation for his later success as a filmmaker and educator.

To date, Mr. Gonzalez’s work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Grand Prize for Best Narrative Short Film at the Golden State Film Festival in 2019 and Best Director for a Narrative Short at the Silicon Beach Film Festival in the same year. The year before, he was recognized as a finalist at the Santa Barbara Screenplay Competition in the Diverse Writers Outreach category. In all he has pursued and achieved, Mr. Gonzalez attributes his success to his supportive parents, who prioritized his education, as well as his strong work ethic and passion for helping others.

Mr. Gonzalez’s latest project is a short film titled “George and Dorothy,” written by John T. Frederick, which is currently on view in the festival circuit. His current focus is split between writing an original feature screenplay based on his high school and college years and on “Fausto’s Road,” a project adapted from Ron Arias’ novel “The Road to Tamazunchale,” which was a semi-finalist in the Stage 32 Grown-Up Movies Screenplay Contest and the NYC International Screenplay Awards. Moving forward with the project, Mr. Gonzalez hopes to finance and produce the film. In the next five years, he plans to continue adapting literary works into screenplays and envisions one of his feature screenplays being transformed into a feature film, further solidifying his legacy in the film industry.
