After earning an Associate of Arts from Gordon Military College and an ABJ degree from the University of Georgia in 1967 and 1969, respectively, Mr. Watts began his career as an officer in the U.S. Army, where he served for two years, including one in VietNam, before returning to civilian life. In 1971, he began his mortgage banking career as a conventional loan representative for Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA). Subsequently, he expanded his professional knowledge with FNMA, serving as Quality Control and Property Manager and as Assistant Regional Appraiser. In the following years, Mr. Watts grew from strength to strength with Ticor Mortgage Insurance Co., where he held numerous senior positions during the 1970s and 1980s, ultimately as Senior Vice President and Eastern Division Manager.

Mr. Watts was founding President of two highly successful financial enterprises that were eventually acquired by public companies. In 1985, he led the organization of Mount Vernon Federal Savings Bank, serving as CEO for 10 years and, in 1995, he was Co-founder of BancMortgage Financial Corp, where he served as co-president for 10 years. In just a few years, BancMortgage became one of Atlanta’s premier financial service providers, specializing in residential permanent loans as well as construction and development loans. Upon retiring from the banking sector, he focused on his work with Watts Family Enterprises, which included real estate investments and other businesses that provided job opportunities for his family.

Mr. Watts’ commitment to community service is as remarkable as his professional achievements. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Dunwoody, where he was President in 1998-99. He served on the Board of Directors of The Phoenix Society and the Georgia Special Olympics. serving on both boards of directors. He also served as President of Cherokee Town and Country Club in 2002-3. In his retirement, he continues to make a difference through volunteer service at Peachtree Christian Church, where he serves as an elder, board member, and former Chair of the Board of Trustees.
