David Trezeguet & Javier Zanetti square off on the eve of the World Cup final.
shoot for love; a YouTube channel popular for guiding famous soccer players through vigorous soccer challenges; managed to create her own World Cup final by pitting two former legends from France and Argentina against each other.
French legend David Trezeguet took on Argentine legend Javier Zanetti in a 1v1 challenge on the Shoot for Love YouTube channel. The two were known for their fiery tempers on the pitch and the couple didn’t disappoint.
The pair have a history not only on the international stage but also in Serie A for their respective clubs. David Trezeguet made over 300 appearances for Juventus in a decade. Javier Zanetti is a true Inter Milan legend. He is their most capped player with 858 appearances and is now the club’s vice-president. With over 10 years of experience playing each other in Italy, this has always been a fight for the ages.
The first challenge was a classic 1vs1. Trezeguet had 10 attempts to get past Zanetti and scored at least 3 goals. If Trezeguet scores 3 goals behind Zanetti, France wins. If Zanetti saves less than 3 goals from Trezeguet’s 10 shots on goal, Argentina wins. While the couple retired from football many years ago, the class is permanent and the two put on a show. It took until the last few tries but Trezeguet pulled through and secured victory for France.
The second challenge was a penalty shootout. The first player to score 3 penalties wins. Although Zanetti was not known for his penalty ability, he was clinical from 12 yards and carried the game to a sudden death. Trezeguet on the other hand, despite being a master marksman (which he proved in the first challenge), he relived nightmares from 2006 when he missed a penalty in the World Cup final against Italy. Argentina had redeemed themselves courtesy of Javier Zanetti.
Both Trezeguet and Zanetti agreed that the 2022 World Cup final would be a very different encounter, with the main fight being between Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé. Only time will tell who will earn the right to call themselves world champions, but until then the spoils will be shared between former rivals Javier Zanetti and David Trezeguet.
