    MARBLEHEAD, MA, September 12, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Arnold R. Henderson Jr., MEd, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Henderson has dedicated his career to the field of education, with a significant tenure at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he currently serves as a consultant for the Black History Project. He began his journey at MIT in 1986 as an assistant dean in the Office of Student Support Services, where he provided counseling, advising and academic support to students. Over the years, he served on various committees, contributing to the institution’s development and student success. In 2014, he transitioned to the role of consultant for the MIT Black History Project, collaborating with Dr. Clarence Williams, a prominent figure in African American history and education.

Before joining MIT, Mr. Henderson worked at Brandeis University from 1984 to 1986 as an assistant dean. His responsibilities included supporting students academically and personally, ensuring their overall well-being. Prior to his time at Brandeis, he was employed at Salem State College, where he focused on counseling and programming for students from disadvantaged and racially diverse backgrounds. His early career included a position as a high school teacher at Cambridge Rindge and Latin Schools, where he was one of the first African American teachers.

Mr. Henderson’s educational background laid a strong foundation for his career in academia. He earned a Master of Education in teaching English from Boston State College in 1976 and a Bachelor of Arts in English and American literature from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 1970. Initially planning to be drafted into military service, he found his calling in education when he was recruited to teach during his final year at university. His interest in education grew over time, leading him to specialize in English and American literature.

Throughout his career, Mr. Henderson has been committed to working with a diverse population of students, including notable figures such as former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and basketball player Patrick Ewing. His dedication to student success is evident in his extensive work with underrepresented groups and his efforts to ensure that all students have the support they need to thrive.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Henderson has been recognized with several awards for his contributions to education and diversity. These include the Brandeis Person of The Year Award in 1986, the YMCA Black Achiever Award in 2001, the MIT Excellence Award for Diversity and the Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Award from MIT. He was also elected to the alumni association’s list of notable graduates at Boston English High School.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Henderson is actively involved in civic organizations and projects related to African American history, volunteering with Facebook on initiatives that promote African American heritage and culture. In his personal life, he enjoys reading, spending time with family and working with people.
