His professional journey began with an illustrious tenure in the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1965 to 1987. During his service, he attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4, a testament to his dedication and exemplary performance. As an E-5 during the Vietnam War, he was recognized with several commendations and medals for his outstanding contributions. Following his retirement from the Navy, Mr. Mezzacappa transitioned into the corporate world, initially joining Squibb a large well known pharmaceutical company in a sales capacity. His tenure at the company was marked by continual success, culminating in receiving the Top Salesman Award several times. This recognition highlighted his ability to leverage his military-honed skills in a business environment, demonstrating adaptability and proficiency in sales.

In 2000, Mr. Mezzacappa took on the role of regional manager at Surgicot, a division of Squibb, where he continued to make a significant impact. In this position, he applied his leadership acumen and industry expertise to drive positive outcomes within the medical field. His work at Surgicot is characterized by strategic oversight and a commitment to excellence, further solidifying his reputation as a leader in his field. Squibb eventually sold to Bristol Myers Squibb and Mr. Mezzacappa stayed within the pharmaceutical arena for many years, obtaining a reputable standing within the field before retirement.

Mr. Mezzacappa’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in marketing from Fordham University in New York, which he completed in 1975. While attending Fordham he became President of the Student Body of one of the five campuses all while maintaining full time employment. In addition to his formal education, he attributes much of his success to the rigorous training received during his military service and maintains that a positive outlook has been crucial in overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities. Mr. Mezzacappa was frequently called upon by a Professor that taught at both Fordham University and St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY to come in and share his expertise with his marketing classes at night. His overall impact on those former students is immeasurable as they have all now moved on to have careers of their own.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Mezzacappa is actively involved with several veteran-related organizations, such as Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. He is currently the Navy representative for Veterans Affairs, reflecting his ongoing commitment to supporting fellow veterans in helping with their benefits. He takes this role to heart due to being appointed by a Navy Admiral and approved by the Past Executive Director of the VA. In recognition of his efforts, Mr. Mezzacappa was the proud recipient of the Secretary of the VA’s Gold Coin for his superior performance and dedication.

In his personal life, he enjoys spending time interacting with fellow veterans, assisting veterans with achieving their benefits and assisting them with reaching their goals in life. CWO4 Mezzacappa has been instrumental in implementing the Wall of Freedom at the VA Hospital which comprises of heroes with purple hearts, bronze stars, silver stars in all military branches that have served in various areas around the world.
