ROCKVILLE, Md. May 8, 2023 /24-7press release/ — Chandrakant Giri, PhD, was included in the Marquis Who’s Who. As in all biographical volumes of the Marquis Who’s Who, the individuals profiled are selected using current reference values. Factors such as position, notable achievements, visibility and notoriety in a field are considered during the selection process.

dr Drawing on more than five decades of experience, Giri specialized in molecular genetics, microbiology, cancer and infection research. Before retiring in 2015, he enjoyed great success as a research microbiologist for the US Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health. In this function Dr. Giri responsible for toxicology, HIV, AIDS, retroviruses, vaccines, environmental diseases, cancer genetics, and viral and bacterial research. He began his vocation as a junior scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center for over two years. In his career, Dr. Giri has also worked as a private consultant and ad hoc reviewer for various microbial genetics journals.

Before beginning his professional career, Dr. Giri trained at Bhavan’s College in India. He earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1964 with minors in physics and mathematics. He continued his academic endeavors at the University of Mumbai, earning a Master of Science in Biochemistry in 1968 and a Post-M.Sc. Diploma in Molecular Biology from the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru. He then received his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics from Georgetown University, Washington, DC in 1978. As a commitment to his subject, Dr. Giri completed his postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Rochester in New York and the Mayo Clinic in New York Rochester, Minnesota. After three years as a postdoctoral fellow at the US FDA, he became a tenured microbiologist and served with the FDA and NIH until his retirement in 2015. During that time, he completed two sabbatical years, first at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Tokyo, Japan. by winning the prestigious scholarship of the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (2003-04) and invitation to the University of Umea, Umea, Sweden 9011-2012).

During his research career spanning over 50 years, which is highly regarded for his contributions to the field, Dr. Giri has received numerous international fellowships as well as travel, teaching and research grants, including several patents for his inventions. One of his notable patents (US Patent No. 5,604,118) was the development of a eukaryotic expression plasmid vector system in which previously functionally unknown genes (such as tremor suppressor genes) can be molecularly cloned and expressed in eukaryotic cells.

After his voluntary retirement in 2015, he conducted research in the emerging fields of science and religion/theology. dr Giri has been teaching Gaudiya Vaishnava philosophy online for two decades. dr Giri is also involved in civil society and volunteers as a worldwide preacher for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

Due to his unique background in science and Hinduism, he developed an intriguing hypothesis to scientifically demonstrate the communication between matter and spirit revealed in various scriptures coupled with centuries-old observations, applying the emerging advances in the science of epigenetics. dr Giri suggests that rendering loving devotional service (prema-bhakti) to the Supreme Person through our physical senses and mind can be the language of this communication. Furthermore, such devotional service could be the environmental trigger to selectively turn on the switches of crucial genes encoding desirable traits of human personality conducive to prema-bhakti, love of Godhead, through epigenetic mechanisms of gene expression, without affecting the underlying DNA to change the sequence. At the same time, this mechanism can also make it possible to turn off the switches of unwanted human personality traits.

Looking to the future, Dr. Giri to publish a book about his hypothesis and hopes to contribute to the connection between science and religion/theology. As a prelude to this book, he has just published a book (ICB -13-979-8889869603; https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Understanding+and+practicing+of+Parama-jnana … nb_sb_noss) entitled “Understanding and Practicing Parama-jnana, the Absolute Knowledge: A Summary.”

In 2020, at the age of 77, he completed his third master’s degree to earn his academic degree in theology, but now in religion, philosophy and science. He is now admitted to his fourth master’s degree and second doctorate. He anticipates that the subject of his dissertation will be his hypothesis.

He has had a long career and credits much of his success to his mother, who taught him the importance of hard work, independence and the impact of helping the less privileged, as well as his determination, perseverance, sacrifice and passion for his field and willingness to take risks .
