SALT LAKE CITY, UT, January 20, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — Marquis Who’s Who, the world’s premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Craig Metcalf with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Craig Metcalf celebrates many years’ experience in his professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Metcalf has established a distinguished career in the legal field, particularly in intellectual property law. As a shareholder at Metcalf IP, LLC since 2024, he manages the business while engaging in a mix of intellectual property, patent and trademark law. He also dedicates time to mediation, arbitration and pro bono work.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Metcalf was a lawyer and shareholder at Kirton McConkie from 2008 to 2023. During this period, he represented individuals, start-up companies and larger entities, including Fortune 500 companies. His tenure at Kirton McConkie was marked by his recognition as one of Utah’s Legal Elite in intellectual property and his AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell.

From 2005 to 2007, Mr. Metcalf served as a partner at Snell & Wilmer. Before that, he was a founding shareholder at Madson & Metcalf from 1990 to 2005. His early career included roles as an attorney at Workman Nydegger from 1984 to 1990 and at Questar for the preceding four years. He began his legal journey as a litigation and appellate attorney at Snow Christensen & Martineau from 1977 to 1979.

Mr. Metcalf’s professional journey is complemented by his earlier experience as a research biochemist at the University of Utah from 1972 to 1975. This scientific background laid the foundation for his transition into law, where he has achieved significant milestones, such as writing and executing over 1,500 patents. His work has supported clients who have achieved notable successes, including a Nobel Prize winner in genetics.

Committed to mentoring the next generation of legal talent, Mr. Metcalf is responsible for the successful hiring and training of around 30 younger attorneys. His overarching dedication to his field has been recognized with numerous accolades, such as AV Peer Review Ratings and Client Review Best Lawyer Awards from Martindale-Hubbell for 25 years. Additionally, he has been honored as a global IT Star for six years.

Mr. Metcalf’s academic achievements include earning a Juris Doctor from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from The University of Utah. He also completed graduate-level coursework in biochemistry and medical devices at The University of Utah and the University of Berne in Switzerland. In addition to his education, he owes his professional success to his hard work and passion for his field.

Mr. Metcalf has always admired attorneys and the role they play in society. However, his father encouraged him to follow in his footsteps and study science and engineering. Although Mr. Metcalf originally considered a career in the sciences and a PhD, he realized that he wanted a broader career that would allow him to make a greater impact in the larger community. He saw being a patent attorney as a great opportunity to become a generalist and touch many people’s lives.

Throughout his career, Mr. Metcalf has acknowledged two mentors who played a significant role in his successful career. An attorney named Allen Jansen, along with his two partners, brought Mr. Metcalf on board their patent firm in 1986 and played a significant role as a mentor during his time there. Prior to his career as a patent attorney, Mr. Metcalf practiced general law and had the opportunity to work with Harold Christianson, the first attorney to truly invest in his career.

Outside his professional life, Mr. Metcalf is actively involved in civic organizations, such as Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Utah Technology Council. He also prioritizes time with his family, including his daughters and grandchildren. Looking ahead in his career, he envisions expanding his work into public policy and economics, continuing to make a positive impact on society through diverse avenues.
