OLMITO, TX, February 08, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Crystal Schmalzried has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Inspired by her junior high and secondary teachers and coaches, Ms. Schmalzried was encouraged to pursue a career in education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in English and Exercise Sports Science from Wayland Baptist University and a Master of Arts in English from Texas Tech University. She is a United States Marine Corps combat veteran who completed her service in 2014 and began teaching and coaching in the Brownsville Independent School District, where she now serves as an English teacher and dual enrollment professor at the local university.

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, she continuously expands her professional knowledge by earning certifications such as Quality Matters, GT, AVID, AP, ESL, and completing leadership courses from Harvard. Present leadership roles include GT ELA Lead Teacher, English IV Strand Leader, Independent Graduation Project Lead Teacher, and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Dual Enrollment Professor. She is also currently pursuing her doctorate in Administrative Leadership from Walden University where she has been inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society, Golden Key International Honour Society, and the SALUTE National Honor Society. She is truly an ambitious lifelong learner.

Ms. Schmalzried aligns herself with Veteran Females United which is a volunteer-driven nonprofit whose mission is to equip veterans who are women to build successful lives. The VFU offers outreach services such as peer-to-peer coaching, family wellness initiatives, and meetings that provide a safe space for veterans and their loved ones to share ideas and experiences, all to support and empower female veterans. She was a catalyst in erecting a statue of a female veteran in Veterans Park in Brownsville as a tribute to all women who have ever served in the U.S. armed forces. Ms. Schmalzried has a servant’s heart which is exemplified by participation/volunteering in the Texas Adopt-A-Beach campaign, Brownsville Marathon, H-E-B Feast of Sharing, and planting trees for Arbor Day, just to name a few.

In recognition of her outstanding work in and out of the classroom, Ms. Schmalzried has been honored with multiple awards including the Apple Award and Assistant Golf Coach of the Year for the state of Texas, however, she credits her success to her desire to make a difference in the lives of others. She will never have to wonder about the impact she has made on her students as she watches them grow into productive citizens who change the world. While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in having a positive impact on the lives of her students.
