KLAMATH FALLS, OR, February 07, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — David Lorenzo Curtis has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Curtis has dedicated his career to the field of archaeology, with a particular focus on the significance of archaeological sites and the analysis of materials found at these locations. Since 2017, he has served as an archaeologist at Lava Beds National Monument, where he is responsible for identifying archaeological materials, recording findings, managing data, and providing recommendations of preservation to the monument’s leadership team. His responsibilities involve fieldwork during the summer and research in the office during the winter. He is committed to preventing damage to archaeological materials and ensuring that any disturbances are minimized. Furthermore, his expertise in geographic information systems (GIS) enhances his ability to assess site significance.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Curtis was an archaeological technician at Yosemite National Park from 2005 to 2016. During this time, he also contributed to the Wilderness Restoration Program, showcasing his dedication to preserving natural and cultural resources. His involvement with the Yosemite Employee Association as secretary and as a member of the events committee also highlights his commitment to fostering community within his professional environment.

Mr. Curtis’s career journey includes various roles that have shaped his expertise in archaeology. In 2010, he worked as a cultural resources specialist at Pacific Legacy Inc. after contributing as an archaeological technician at Point Reyes National Seashore the preceding year and at the Anthropological Studies Center-Sonoma State University the year before that. Earlier in his career, he provided post-fire archaeological support to Mojave National Preserve, and held positions as an archaeologist at the Colville National Forest in Washington state and the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Alaska. His foundational experiences as a square supervisor for the Madaba Plains Project in 1999 and 1996 and as a field archaeologist for the Selz Foundation Hazor Excavations in 1997 laid the foundation for his future success.

Throughout his career, Mr. Curtis has been recognized for his ability to communicate complex archaeological concepts to diverse audiences. His public outreach efforts at Lava Beds National Monument have been particularly impactful, where he has conducted tours focusing on the historical context of the Modoc War of 1872 to 1873. These tours have resonated deeply with participants, including tribal members who are descendants of those exiled following the war.

Mr. Curtis’s academic background includes coursework toward a master’s degree in cultural resources management and anthropology from Sonoma State University from 2007 to 2010 and a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and archaeology from The University of New Mexico, where he graduated cum laude in 1999. Although he originally undertook classes in anthropology and archeology, he did not realize his passion for the latter subject until he had the opportunity to participate in fieldwork and secured his first paying job in the industry.

Born in Malta, Montana, Mr. Curtis enjoys backpacking, hiking and gaming outside of his professional life. He is also deeply passionate about preserving history and educating others about its significance, contributing further to this cause through his membership with the Society for American Archaeology, the Oregon Archaeological Society and the Archaeological Society of Central Oregon. Looking ahead, he aims to leave a lasting impact by ensuring that future generations of archaeologists can build upon his work.
