His expertise extends to state licensure, accreditation, and ensuring compliance in billing and coding practices. Prior to his current role, he was a compliance officer for provider education and Southwestern health resources at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, from 2017 to 2019.
From 2013 to 2017, Mr. Lehnortt was the director of practice plan billing compliance at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His tenure at the university also included roles as assistant vice president and compliance officer from 2006 to 2012 and director of the Office of Billing Compliance from 1998 to 2006. Earlier in his career, he served as assistant director of government affairs at the American College of Emergency Physicians from 1983 to 1992. During this time, he developed a reputation for his writing, publication and teaching achievements, including authoring a manual on state legislation and contributing chapters to several books.
Mr. Lehnortt’s academic background includes a Master of Arts in political economy from The University of Texas at Dallas in 1982 and a Bachelor of Arts in political science, with a minor in history, from Pennsylvania Western University in Clarion in 1981. His educational journey laid the foundation for his career in health care compliance, where he has become an expert in billing compliance, HIPAA compliance, Stark law consulting for emergency medicine operations, and policy analysis.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Lehnortt is certified in health care compliance by the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) from 2017 to 2020. He has also been actively involved with HCCA as a speaker at annual meetings and regional conferences. His commitment to civic engagement is evident through his volunteer work with the Methodist Church in Dallas from 2010 to 2016. For his efforts, he was recognized with the Good Citizen Award from Daughters of the American Revolution in 1977.
Born in Oil City, Pennsylvania, Mr. Lehnortt enjoys playing tennis, spending time outdoors, reading and meeting new individuals. As he looks forward to retirement, he plans to focus on personal pursuits, such as reconnecting with hobbies such as golf and spending quality time with his wife, Amanda, and their dogs. While he may occasionally mentor former colleagues due to his specialized knowledge, his primary focus is on relaxation and enjoying life beyond professional commitments.
