Donavan S. Kenney is the company owner of The Hedge Bistro

Mr. Kenney is the company owner of The Hedge Bistro in Guilderland, New York, a fully operational restaurant and bar that has been serving customers since 2023. His establishment offers a menu featuring classic pub-style food, including street tacos, appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and salads. In his role as owner, he manages the day-to-day operations while his business partner provides financial backing as a silent partner. Their shared business philosophy and his business partner’s success in various other businesses have contributed to the success of The Hedge Bistro.

In addition to his primary role, Mr. Kenney has served as a regional chef for ShopRite since 2021. Concurrently with this position, he was the executive chef at Martel’s Bistro at Colonie Country Club from 2021 to 2023. His career also includes tenure outside the restaurant industry as a financial representative in Albany, New York from 2020 to 2021. For the preceding five years, he worked as a food service specialist at Price Chopper Supermarkets, Market 32 after holding multiple roles at Price Chopper Supermarkets from 2011 to 2020, including corporate chef and research and development chef. Early in his career, he served Market Bistro as restaurant team leader, Compass Group North America as a food service manager and the Louisville Zoo with Aramark in Louisville, Kentucky as an executive chef.

Mr. Kenney’s professional journey began with his service in the U.S. Air Force from 1990 to 1994. Following his military service, he pursued higher education and earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in mathematics and culinary arts from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1995. Furthering his credentials, he holds a certification from the New York State Department of Financial Services and is a member of the American Culinary Federation and the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Kenney’s professional journey is deeply intertwined with his family and close-knit community. The Hedge Bistro is a small, family-run business where his wife, three children and long-time family friends all contribute their input. Many of his children’s friends also work at the restaurant and share a personal connection with him, having called him “Chef” from their childhood. He values the support and dedication of his staff, who go the extra mile because they are invested in his success.

Outside of his career, Mr. Kenney enjoys fishing and watching football whenever his schedule allows. He also cherishes spending time with his family, frequently making use of their hammocks in the backyard. Looking ahead in his career, he hopes to eventually retire from the business but remains open to future opportunities or challenges that may arise. He understands that many unforeseen factors will shape his path forward, but plans to continue setting up his family for long-term success and meticulously managing The Hedge Bistro’s brand reputation.
