dr Teng received a Distinguished Professorship in Heart Disease Research from the Jerry and Maury Rubenstein Foundation.

Based on years of professional experience in education and scientific research, Dr. Teng is currently an associate professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Before that she was Professor of Molecular Medicine from 1998 to 2021. She also gained valuable expertise in this field over the years as a professor at Baylor College and as a research assistant professor at the University of Chicago. Because of her enormous wealth of knowledge, Dr. Teng has authored a plethora of articles, including “Pioneering Discovery of Apolipoprotein B mRNA Editing Enzyme (APOBEC1)” and “PCSK9 Deficiency Reduces Atherosclerosis, Apolipoprotein B Secretion, and Endothelial Dysfunction.” During her career she has been featured in publications such as Science, Proc.Natl.Acad.Sci. USA, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol or Genetic Vaccine and Therapy.

dr Eager to keep up with changes in the field, Teng joins the International Atherosclerosis Society, the American Heart Association, Gene and Cell Therapy, and the RNA Society. Before starting her professional career, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Taiwan University in 1971. Subsequently, Dr. Teng earned a Masters of Science in biochemistry from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a PhD in experimental medicine from McGill University. In addition, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in England.

In view of her professional achievements, Dr. Teng from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston with the Jerry and Maury Rubenstein Foundation Distinguished Professorship in Heart Disease Research. While her career has been full of highlights, she is most proud of the cloning of an apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme (Apobec1) that played a significant role in solving the mystery of lipid metabolism during her career at the University of Chicago. The cornerstone of her success lay with her mentors, particularly her supervisor Allan David Sniderman, who encouraged her along the way. Looking to the future, Dr. Teng write reports about their scientific field and contribute to the community as volunteers. She wants to help children, especially girls, pursue careers in scientific research.
