FOLSOM, CA, June 24, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Dr. Chris Mensah-Bonsu has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Mensah-Bonsu’s wealth of experience in electric power industry practice, engineering education, deregulated wholesale electricity markets, real-time power system operation, power grid planning, regulatory energy policy, and renewable energy is underscored by his unique insights. As the founding president and chief executive officer of Mensah-Bonsu Energy Consulting Inc (dba: MB Energy), he has spearheaded advancements in electric power engineering, power system analysis, energy economics, transmission plan development, electric utility industry restructuring and grid standards compliance. His advisory role to the United States Department of Energy’s Western Area Power Administration-Sierra Nevada Region on electric power grid planning, power system operations, grid standards, and coordination of a planning authority of North America Electric Reliability Corporation is a testament to his exceptional understanding of the field. He continues to make significant contributions as a senior principal power engineer for Cherokee Federal CNSP LLC. Dr. Mensah-Bonsu’s extensive knowledge is also shared through his role as an educator, teaching electric power engineering classes at California State University, Sacramento and invited speaker.

Over the years, Dr. Mensah-Bonsu held several leadership, technical and consulting advisory roles to support the public and private energy sectors through California Independent System Operator Inc (CAISO), where he worked for almost two decades, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and the Ghana energy sector. Chris has provided critical expertise in wholesale electricity market development and operations, power system operation, grid planning, and education through various roles with the California ISO, the West African Power Pool, Deloitte Consulting, Solar Frontier Americas Development and Arizona State University, where he completed his doctoral degree and worked as a research and teaching associate between 1997 and 2000.

Dr. Mensah-Bonsu served as industry expert witness, participating member of the US Western Governors’ Energy Association – Western Renewable Energy Zones Initiative, member to the Technical Studies Subcommittee (TSS/StS) of the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), senior advisor to the Economic Communities of West African States’ West African Power Pool (ECOWAS-WAPP), advisor to USAID’s West Africa Energy Program (WAEP), principal technical Advisor to Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), Ghana Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

An expert in his field, Dr. Mensah-Bonsu completed studies in mathematics, science, and liberal arts at Adisadel College and Kumasi High School in Ghana before pursuing an electrical engineering diploma through the Technical University in Varna, Bulgaria. Subsequently, he expanded his professional knowledge by earning a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Cleveland State University in Ohio and a doctor of philosophy degree in the same discipline from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, he aligns himself with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), where he is a senior member, professional engineering membership of the Ghana Institution of Engineering, and as industry mentor for the U.S. Energy Policy Institute. Dr. Mensah-Bonsu’s pioneering work: “Instrumentation and real-time measurement of overhead high voltage power transmission conductor sag for dynamic line rating using differential global positioning satellite system” has gained useful applications in the electric power industry and academia. In conjunction with his work, Dr. Mensah-Bonsu invests in education of disadvantaged students and their communities. His support in schools and community infrastructure at Agyamasu (his native village) in the Bekwai District of Ghana has uplifted and changed the lives of many.

Throughout his over 25 years career, Dr. Mensah-Bonsu has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications, including “Energy Policy Options for the Ghana Energy Sector,” “Transient over-voltages in High Voltage grid-connected solar PV Interconnection,” and “California Electricity Market Crisis: Root Causes, Remedies, and Prevention.” In light of his outstanding work, he has received several community awards and recognition through the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. While his career has been filled with highlights and as a professor, Dr. Mensah-Bonsu takes the most pride in witnessing his students’ professional growth as an educator.

Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Dr. Mensah-Bonsu credits his success to his humble beginnings at Agyamasu through the nurturing of his grandmother, Nana Afua “Senti” Dufie and mother, Ama Konadu. Looking ahead, he intends to leverage his expertise in electric power engineering, deregulated wholesale electricity markets, academia, and professional leadership back in Ghana and Africa. Dr. Mensah-Bonsu is relentless in insuring more greener, cleaner, resilient and reliable power grid; and affordable energy for electric utility stakeholders and users around the world.
