dr Tunac plans to advance its novel “anti-burglary” paradigm to cure a variety of diseases by repairing and maintaining the integrity of a healthy cell.

OXFORD, MI 09 January 2023 /24-7press release/ — dr Josefino B. Tunac was included in the Marquis Who’s Who. As in all biographical volumes of the Marquis Who’s Who, the individuals profiled are selected using current reference values. Factors such as position, notable achievements, visibility and notoriety in a field are considered during the selection process.

dr Tunac has more than four decades of excellence in biotechnology research and is a recognized leader of Arterez Inc. In this capacity, he is the company’s President and Chairman, focusing his efforts on the development of multifactorial therapies and diagnostics for use in disease. dr Tunac’s concept is that disease begins when foreign objects disrupt the cell’s protective shield. Cells are made up of biomolecules linked by electrons, and the integrity of the bond maintains a healthy cell. Electron-stealing chemicals oxidize this bond, creating foreign molecules that eventually activate the second defense, which includes the immune system and a multifactorial cascade of disruption. Targeting a single component in the cascade only provides presumptive or patch treatment. Their lead therapeutic is currently embotricin, an oral multi-component cardiovascular disease drug designed to prevent and reverse the formation of arterial plaque.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Tunac began his career as a senior scientist at Merck and then was director of antibiotics and chemotherapy at Warner-Lambert and Parke-Davis, which was later acquired by Pfizer. He then founded Fermical, Inc., a biotechnology research company, and Farmaceutix, LLC, which develops drugs to treat chronic human diseases. Over the course of his career, he has received 30 patents for his work and one of his works, Avermectin®, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2015. He discovered his first drug (Hydroheptin) at the Waksman Institute and at Merck. He was instrumental in the discovery and development of billions of dollars worth of drugs including Ivomec® Heartgard® and Primaxin®. He invented the Tunair™ flask, which is now used worldwide in the cultivation of microorganisms. His latest patent, Biomarker Panel Targeted to Diseases Due to Multifactorial Ontology of Glycocalyx Disruption, was published on December 8, 2022. dr Tunac was also named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Metropolitan Center for High Technology in Detroit, Michigan.

Before beginning his professional career, Dr. Tunac holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the Philippines. He then completed postgraduate studies at South Dakota State University and Penn State University and received his PhD from Rutgers University.

In the years to come, Dr. Tunac to advance its novel “burglar-proof” paradigm to cure a variety of diseases by repairing and maintaining the integrity of a healthy cell. The upstream cause of pathologies is physical injury to the glycocalyx, a protective covering of cells, by foreign substances (Xeno), resulting in a sequence of cellular damage (Plexic), which manifests itself downstream in the form of diseases that Dr. Tunac referred to as “xenoplexic diseases”. The glycocalyx disruption throws debris into the bloodstream and the unique pattern is created by Dr. Tunac as the basis for a “diagnostic fingerprint” for diseases, the “Glycocalyx Detritus Fingerprint”. He originally entered biotechnology research after learning about the discovery of penicillin while living in the Philippines. He was fascinated by how such a small drug could heal an entire body after experiencing an illness and committed to following his passion of finding other such cures.
