Eddie Brailsford Joins the BlackPast.org Board of Directors

SEATTLE, WA, March 02, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — North Carolina retired business executive and philanthropist, Eddie Brailsford has been appointed to the board of directors of BlackPast.org at its October 2024 meeting. Brailsford will now serve a two-year term through December 2026, helping to provide senior management with insight, foresight, and sound governance with specific emphasis in his areas of expertise.

Board Chair Doug Bender who has worked with Mr. Brailsford at other nonprofit (and for profit) organizations stated, “Eddie brings a very extensive level of expertise and competency to our board in the form of governance of large business entities with over forty years of executive leadership focused on strategic planning, financial management, risk assessment, stewardship, and treasury oversight. He has a technical proficiency that is hard to find and a long-standing familiarity with community-based organizations that help lift all of society when operated well. His knowledge, energy, and passion will help take us to unprecedented heights and we are grateful to have him on the board at this pivotal time in BlackPast.org’s trajectory.”

Eddie retired from the Volvo Group, Gothenburg Sweden, in 2016, after 34 years of service. He held numerous leadership positions during his tenure, including Vice President, Corporate Financial Reporting Americas (North America and South America) and Chief Financial Controller, Volvo Trucks North America. During his time at Volvo, Brailsford was also a Board Member and Chairman of the Audit Committee, Petro Stopping Centers, LLP and Board Member, Volvo Group Canada, Inc. Before joining Volvo, Mr. Brailsford was employed by Union Carbide and Miller Brewing Company. During his career, he was also affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and the National Association of Black Accountants.

Eddie Brailsford currently serves or has served on many nonprofit boards including as Steward and Treasurer, Bethel AME Church, Greensboro, NC; Board of Management Member, Hayes-Taylor YMCA; Board Member and Treasurer, Royal Expressions Contemporary Ballet; President, Wilberforce University Alumni Association – Greater Charlotte Chapter; Vice President, National Association of Black Accountants – Triad Chapter; Board Member and Treasurer, Sickle Cell Disease Association of the Piedmont; Finance Committee Member, United Way of Greensboro; Board Member, Vice President and Treasurer, Triad Diamond Ski Club; and Treasurer, Mountain West Golf Association.

Eddie received his B.S. degree in accounting and is a Life Member of the Wilberforce University Alumni Association. He obtained his CPA License in 1986 from the North Carolina State Board of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Brailsford is a native of Summerton, South Carolina and resides in Greensboro, North Carolina. He has two (2) children, Ms. Andrea Brailsford, and Dr. Ashley Vaughns, and three (3) grandchildren.
