With more than two decades of excellence in general psychiatry, Dr. Haq has earned distinction as a physician with the Department of Veterans Affairs and other organizations. Since 2002, he has focused his efforts on treating patients who are struggling with psychosis, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance abuse or post-traumatic stress disorder. As part of his expertise in treating these and many other conditions, he was appointed as the Chief Mental Health BVA Health Care System, medical director of telehealth services and served as a clinical director for the post-traumatic stress disorder team and the mental health intensive case management team, even providing care to veterans in their homes when needed. He is the founder of APPNA Alabama Chapter in 2007 to expand the services for the mankind.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Dr. Haq has served as a clinical professor for the department of psychiatry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Heersink School of Medicine since 1998 as well as Chief resident, assistant, and associate professor. He is also the founder of the Red Crescent Clinic of Alabama, which he established in 2012 along with several co-founders of this free clinic. Among his professional accomplishments, he has received various awards from several presidents of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America for National Health Care Day. He was awarded as a distinguished fellow to the American Psychiatric Association for his services to the field of psychiatry and community services. He was also instrumental in starting various residency programs at BVAMC, including a psychiatric residency program and a nurse practitioner residency program, playing a key role in developing and promoting telehealth programs as well.
To prepare for his medical career, Dr. Haq earned a medical degree of Medicine from the Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore Punjab over 3 decades ago. Following these achievements, he completed a residency in psychiatry at the University of Alabama, UAB School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry in 2002. Well-qualified in his field, he is certified and recertified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Looking to the future, Dr. Haq intends to continue helping others as his top priority, utilizing his positive nature and his compassion for others. Inspired by his own journey as an immigrant, he is passionate about giving back to his community and serving humanity.
