ENGLEWOOD, FL, January 22, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Elizabeth E. Patterson has been selected for inclusion in the “Marquis Who’s Who in America” biographical volumes for her excellence as a professional counselor for over 30 years. Lisa was included in the “Who’s Who” based on her reference value, position(s), noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in the national fields of mental health education, psychotherapy, and human services during the span of her lengthy career.

During her three decades of practice, Ms. Patterson has constructively contributed to the health of many communities and populations (largely in the not-for-profit sector), as a highly skilled, well-respected administrator/manager and clinician. She has been employed by health centers, colleges, county governments, hospitals, and the American Red Cross, in addition to running her own long-term private practice in several states (CO, MI, FL, NM) since 1995. For the past ten years, she’s focused her attention on the end-of-life arena, working for several hospices, as well as providing services on a Palliative Care team and administering a “No One Dies Alone” program at a Level-II trauma center in Pontiac, Michigan.

Along her professional journey, Ms. Patterson earned two degrees in clinical psychology (University of Colorado; Regis University School for Professional Studies), plus several post-graduate credentials in crisis management (FEMA), social work (Smith College), grief support (University of Wisconsin), and thanatology (Association for Death Education and Counseling). She also holds certifications as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher (Brown University School for Public Health), and as a Hatha yoga instructor. Further, Lisa is an experienced, multi-credentialed international End-of-Life Doula, broadly serving as a community-based volunteer and advisor.

As part of her commitment to supporting the young, international, grassroots “Death Positive” movement, Lisa wrote the doula credentialing exam, and was an active board member for the National End-of-Life Doula Association (NEDA). Lisa now consults for the Sarasota Area End-of-Life Doula Collective in FL, and is a vocal advocate for the Florida “Death With Dignity” platform on the state level. She is also currently affiliated with Authentic Presence, a contemplative training organization based in Ireland, facilitating global grief circles on a regular, volunteer basis.

While her career has been filled with highlights and honors, she takes the most pride in her role working intimately with groups, families, and individuals as a professional counselor and “soundingboard”; the cornerstone of her success lies in her compassionate listening and response skills, as she nurtures people wherever they are in their development.

Now facing two types of terminal illnesses herself, Lisa continues to advise (as both counselor and peer) for several organizations: she teaches for the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) at the University of New Mexico, and she participates in a number of support groups, including the Myleodysplastic Syndromes Foundation (MDSF) and the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation. She remarks, “We’re all human, each on our paths, learning as we go, and so we have more in common than not.” Her mottos include: “There is great value in living fully”; and, “Thanks for everything, I have no complaints whatsoever” (Zen parable).
