She opened her private practice as an autism and ADHD specialist in psychotherapy and neurodiverse couple’s counseling in 2013.

She has written several influential books, including her most popular and well-received title, “Marriage and Lasting Relationships with Asperger Syndrome,” published in 2015. Her other works include co-authoring “Gender Identity, Sexuality, and Autism” in 2019 and “Armchair Conversations on Love and Autism: Secrets of Happy Neurodiverse Couples,” set to be released in 2024. Ms. Mendes also contributes to Psychology Today as a blogger, Complete Wellbeing Magazine as a contributing writer and the American Bazaar Online as a columnist.

Ms. Mendes’ academic background laid the foundation for her successful career. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in psychology at Union Institute and University in 2007, followed by a Master of Arts in clinical mental health counseling from the same institution in 2011. Currently pursuing a doctorate in psychology, she is also a licensed mental health counselor and a nationally certified counselor. She attributes her successful career to her Buddhist faith, hardwork, tenacity and the unending support of her friends and family.

Ms. Mendes’ contributions to her industry have been recognized with various awards from the American Psychological Association and the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association. Her commitment to her profession is further evidenced by her active involvement with the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association, the National Board of Certified Counselors in North Carolina and the American Psychological Association.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Mendes is deeply involved in civic activities and creative projects that reflect her commitment to community service and education. She is a supporter and mentor for Soka Gakkai International, volunteers at the Asian Task Force women’s shelter and is involved with local environmental and conservation efforts.

In her personal life, Ms. Mendes finds joy in yoga, spending quality time with her family, and indulging in arts and crafts, particularly painting and sewing.
