NEW YORK, NY, April 09, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Fanchette Marguerat J. Degaard has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

For over a decade, Dr. Marguerat Degaard, a trained clinical psychologist, has owned and operated her private practice, through which she focuses on the human experience and uses an array of therapeutic techniques to help patients turn their attention to healing the hurt, deep losses, and pain from the past by exploring new, creative ways of thinking to help them move forward freely. Her passion for dance and her curiosity in human ‘psychology,’ i.e. narratives and experiences, have been the life forces guiding her personal and professional journey. Beginning her career in the therapeutic and psychological sector, she first studied in Switzerland, earning a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Arts in clinical psychology from the University of Geneva. Five years after that, she moved to the United States, where she earned a master’s degree in dance movement therapy from Hunter College.

After receiving her degrees and credentials, Dr. Marguerat Degaard went on to work as a creative art therapist supervisor and recreation therapist supervisor at the Manhattan Psychiatric Center for nearly 15 years. From 1999 to 2005, she pursued a Doctorate of Philosophy in clinical psychology from Adelphi University and worked as a psychology intern at Bronx Psychiatric Center. After earning her doctorate, she moved into the hospital setting at New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, now NYC Health + Hospitals.

From 2007 to 2017, Dr. Marguerat Degaard held the title of senior and chief psychologist at Jacobi Medical Center, and served as a coordinator for the discharge readiness unit, a position she held from 2008 to 2017. She received service excellence recognition from the Behavioral Health Department in 2013. After five years of working concurrently in the hospital setting and operating her practice, she transitioned to providing her services full-time through her private practice in 2017. She started integrating both verbal and non-verbal therapy into her practice. Through her work, Dr. Marguerat Degaard relies on curiosity and creativity as pivotal elements for understanding clients and aiding them in their journeys.

By remaining curious and open, Dr. Marguerat Degaard can view herself and humanity as dynamic entities and allows herself to stay unattached to the notions of “being right” or “good”. Moreover, she acknowledges the complexity within herself and others based on an understanding that imperfection allows for greater room to evolve. For Dr. Marguerat Degaard, creativity entails generating and expanding spaces for her clients, an approach that resonates particularly well with her artist clients.

Although she engages with a diverse range of patients, Dr. Marguerat Degaard is particularly interested in working with artists due to her fascination with the creative process and her proximity to artists, as both her husband and son are musicians. Throughout her career, she has gauged her success based on the progress and satisfaction of her patients as well as the return of clients and the referrals to her practice, which have continued to affirm her effectiveness, and thus success, as a mental health care professional. Looking forward, Dr. Marguerat Degaard aspires to continue cultivating a thriving practice and is resolute in elevating her visibility and brand through social media to connect with more individuals. This, in turn, will enable her to establish her niche of working with young and old artists who aspire to create and amplify their voices.

As an established professional in the field, Dr. Marguerat Degaard holds membership with both national and state- and region-specific organizations, such as the American Psychological Association, the Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology, the New York State Psychological Association, and the Westchester Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, where she has received continuous education and training. Inspired by her dedication to helping others, she occasionally provides pro bono services, a commitment she upheld during the COVID-19 pandemic. She actively worked with economically disadvantaged patients when she was a dance therapist and when she worked for NYC Health + Hospitals. Outside of her therapeutic work, she actively supports causes that advocate for women’s and human rights and is a patron of the arts, holding membership with the Museum of Modern Art and local art institutions.
